Apple Prepares to Launch Two New Studio Displays

Apple appears to be gearing up for a busy few weeks of product launches, with new information suggesting that the company will soon unveil two new Apple Studio Displays. This comes amid a flurry of anticipated releases, including a low-cost MacBook, updated MacBook Pro and MacBook Air models, and the iPhone 17e. The timing of these new displays could coincide with Apple’s expected March event, signalling a significant refresh to its desktop display lineup.

Key Details on the New Studio Displays and Other Devices

The latest macOS 26.3 update has revealed references to three unreleased Apple product identifiers: J700, J427, and J527. While the J700 is widely believed to represent the upcoming low-cost MacBook, the other two identifiers, J427 and J527, are thought to correspond to the new Studio Displays. Notably, the J527 identifier appeared in a leaked pre-release iOS build, further supporting its connection to the forthcoming display models.

Reports indicate that at least one of these new Studio Displays will feature a ProMotion-style variable refresh rate reaching up to 120Hz, enhancing the smoothness of on-screen motion. Additionally, the displays are expected to support both SDR and HDR modes, offering improved visual fidelity. A significant upgrade under the hood will come from the integration of the A19 chip, replacing the current A13 Bionic processor found in the existing Studio Display, promising better performance and efficiency.

Context and Broader Launch Expectations

Industry insider Mark Gurman has highlighted that Apple’s upcoming product launches will be extensive, covering not only the new Studio Displays but also the much-anticipated low-cost MacBook, new MacBook Pro and Air models, and even new Mac Studio, iMac, and Mac mini variants throughout the year. This aligns with the company’s strategy to refresh its Mac lineup aggressively, especially considering the depleted inventory of the current M4-series MacBook Pro models, which suggests the imminent arrival of M5 Pro and M5 Max chips.

Meanwhile, analyst Gene Munster expects Apple’s March 4 event to focus primarily on the low-end MacBook and the iPhone 17e, the latter being a more affordable variant following the iPhone 16e released last year. The budget MacBook is rumoured to feature a novel manufacturing process for its aluminium shell, potentially borrowing thermal design elements from the iPhone 16 Pro, such as a graphite-clad aluminium substructure.

What to Expect Next

With multiple product launches on the horizon, Apple’s March event promises to be packed with announcements that will excite both Mac and iPhone enthusiasts. The introduction of new Studio Displays with advanced features like 120Hz refresh rates and upgraded chips could significantly enhance the desktop experience for creative professionals and general users alike. As the event approaches, more concrete details and official confirmations are likely to emerge, so it will be worth watching closely for further updates.
