Honor Magic V6 Unveils Tougher Build and New Colour Ahead of MWC Launch
Honor is gearing up to officially launch the Magic V6 foldable smartphone at Mobile World Congress on March 1. Ahead of the event, the company has revealed some key improvements focused on durability, signalling a major step up in ruggedness compared to its predecessor. Notably, the Magic V6 will feature an IP69 rating, making it one of the most robust foldables on the market.
Unlike many current foldables that offer only an IPX5 or IPX8 rating, the Magic V6 boasts both IP68 and IP69 certifications. The critical difference lies in the dust protection: while most foldables are rated IP5X, allowing some dust ingress without damage, the Magic V6 achieves an IP6X rating, meaning it is completely dust-tight. This enhancement provides users with greater confidence in the device’s resilience against environmental elements.
Advanced Display Protection and Reinforced Hinge
Alongside the improved ingress protection, Honor has introduced its Advanced Display Protection technology on the Magic V6. This includes a reinforced inner screen supported by ultra-thin glass (UTG) and a backing layer designed to increase wear resistance. The display also benefits from low-reflectivity coatings that reduce screen glare to an industry-leading 1.5%, enhancing visibility in bright conditions.
Durability extends to the device’s hinge, which Honor calls the Super Steel Hinge. Crafted from the strongest commercially available steel, this hinge promises exceptional structural integrity, addressing one of the main concerns with foldable smartphones. To demonstrate its toughness, Honor even enlisted YouTuber Joe Weller to test the hinge in an extreme scenario: he was ziplining in Thailand while attached to the Magic V6, putting the hinge under real-world stress.

New Colour Option and Upcoming Reveal
In addition to technical upgrades, the Magic V6 will launch with a striking new red-and-gold colour scheme, expanding the aesthetic choices for the foldable lineup. Early hands-on photos have showcased this vibrant finish, which adds a fresh twist to the device’s design.
While these details offer a glimpse into the Magic V6’s capabilities, full specifications and pricing will be disclosed during the official reveal at MWC. Alongside the Magic V6, Honor plans to introduce the MagicPad 4 tablet, the MagicBook Pro 14 laptop, and showcase innovative robotics projects including a humanoid robot and the Robot Phone.
Looking Ahead
With the Magic V6, Honor appears to be doubling down on durability and premium design in the foldable segment. The IP69 rating and reinforced hinge could set new standards for ruggedness in foldable smartphones. Fans and industry watchers will be keen to see how these improvements translate into everyday use once the device is fully unveiled next week.
