Honor Introduces the X6d with Notable Camera Upgrade

At the close of last year, Honor expanded its budget-friendly smartphone lineup with the Play 60A in China. Now, a closely related device has surfaced in the United Arab Emirates under the name Honor X6d, marking a subtle but significant evolution in the series. While the two models share many similarities, the X6d stands out with an upgraded 50MP rear camera, a notable improvement over the 13MP sensor found on the Play 60A.

The rear camera on the X6d maintains a single-lens setup with an f/2.0 aperture, capable of recording video at 1080p and 30fps, similar to its predecessor. Meanwhile, the front-facing camera remains unchanged, featuring a 5MP sensor with an f/2.2 aperture, suitable for basic selfies and video calls.

Key Specifications and Features

Under the hood, the Honor X6d is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 6300 chipset, a 6nm processor designed primarily for cost-effective 5G connectivity. This SoC is paired with 4GB of RAM and a substantial 256GB of internal storage, although details about expandable storage have yet to be confirmed. The device runs on Android 15 out of the box, presumably layered with Honor’s MagicOS interface.

The phone sports a large 6.75-inch LCD display with a 720p+ resolution, delivering basic visuals suitable for everyday use. While the official specifications from the retailer do not mention a fingerprint sensor, it is likely positioned on the side, consistent with many budget models. The X6d supports dual SIM functionality, though specifics regarding Wi-Fi and Bluetooth standards remain unlisted. For context, the Play 60A includes Wi-Fi 5 (ac) and Bluetooth 5.3 with aptX HD support but lacks NFC.

Powering the device is a 5,260mAh battery, a minor difference from the Play 60A’s 5,300mAh cell, which may simply be a variation in labelling rather than actual capacity. This sizeable battery should provide ample endurance for typical daily tasks.

Pricing, Availability, and Model Confusion

The Honor X6d has appeared in the UAE market with a price tag of AED 509, roughly equivalent to $138, €116, or ₹12,555. It is offered in two colour options: Midnight Black and Ocean Cyan, catering to different style preferences.

Interestingly, recent certification from the Global Certification Forum (GCF) reveals that the X6d carries the model number NLA-NX1, which is also associated with another device called the Honor 500 Smart. This has caused some confusion, as existing Honor 500 models in China feature a markedly different design reminiscent of the iPhone Air and boast much larger batteries around 8,000mAh. The X6d or Honor 500 Pro does not align with these characteristics, suggesting it occupies a distinct niche within Honor’s portfolio.

Looking Ahead

The Honor X6d represents a modest but meaningful update to Honor’s entry-level 5G offerings, primarily through its improved camera capabilities and solid battery life. As the device quietly rolls out in new markets, it will be interesting to see whether Honor continues to expand this lineup or introduces further variants. For now, the X6d offers an affordable option for users seeking basic 5G connectivity with enhanced photography on a budget.
