HUAWEI Launches Mate X7 and New Devices Globally
At a recent event in Dubai, HUAWEI officially introduced the Mate X7 foldable smartphone alongside several other new products, including the MatePad 11.5 S tablet, FreeClip 2 earbuds, and the Watch Ultimate Design smartwatch. This marks a significant move as HUAWEI brings its latest foldable and ecosystem devices to markets beyond China, positioning itself as a strong competitor in the global foldable segment.
Key Features and Specifications of the Mate X7
The Mate X7 stands out with its impressive durability credentials, boasting IP58 and IP59 ratings for dust and water resistance. These ratings signify the device’s ability to withstand submersion and high-pressure water jets, an improvement over its predecessor, the Mate X6, which had an IPX8 rating, and even surpassing Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7 with its IP48 rating. Additionally, HUAWEI has enhanced the foldable’s drop, impact, and bend resistance, making it more robust for everyday use.
Display-wise, the Mate X7 features a 6.49-inch outer screen with a resolution of 2444 × 1080 pixels and a peak brightness of 3,000 nits. The inner display is an 8-inch panel with a resolution of 2416 × 2210 pixels and a peak brightness of 2,500 nits. Both screens utilise 1-120Hz LTPO technology and support 1440Hz PWM dimming, delivering smooth visuals and efficient power consumption. The device is also lighter than its predecessor, weighing 236 grams.
Photography capabilities have been upgraded with a new 50MP telephoto camera equipped with an f/2.2 aperture and RYYB sensor, featuring optical image stabilization (OIS) and offering 3.5x optical zoom. This replaces the Mate X6’s 48MP telephoto lens with 4x zoom. The primary camera remains a 50MP RYYB sensor with a variable aperture (f/1.49 to f/4) and OIS, complemented by a 40MP ultrawide RYYB camera and a second-generation colour sensor. Both the cover and inner displays include an 8MP front camera each.
One notable difference for the global Mate X7 model is its smaller 5,300mAh battery, compared to the 5,600mAh unit found in the Chinese version. Despite this, fast charging remains robust with 66W wired and 50W wireless charging supported via proprietary chargers. The phone will be offered in three colours internationally: Brocade White, Nebula Red, and Black.

Other New Devices: FreeClip 2, MatePad 11.5 S, and Watch Ultimate Design
Alongside the Mate X7, HUAWEI also unveiled the FreeClip 2 earbuds, which build upon the original FreeClip design launched earlier in 2023. These open-ear earbuds are designed for all-day comfort and feature a right-left agnostic design, meaning users do not need to worry about which earbud goes in which ear. The FreeClip 2 are smaller, lighter, and come with a softer C-shaped bridge for improved fit across various ear shapes. Battery life has been extended to nine hours per charge, with the charging case providing a total of 38 hours. Quick charging offers three hours of playback from just ten minutes of charging. The earbuds feature 10.8mm dual-diaphragm drivers for enhanced bass and an innovative soundfield anti-leakage algorithm to minimise sound escape. They carry an IP57 rating, while the case is rated IP54, and will be available in Blue, White, Black, and Rose Gold.
The MatePad 11.5 S tablet sports an 11.5-inch 2.8K LCD display with a 3:2 aspect ratio and adaptive refresh rate ranging from 30Hz to 144Hz. It reaches a peak brightness of 500 nits and offers a Soft Light Edition with anti-glare and anti-reflective coating for better usability under bright conditions. The tablet is slim at 6.1mm and weighs 515g, featuring patented cavity antenna technology for enhanced network performance. Its large 8,800mAh battery supports 66W fast charging, and it comes with a 13MP front and 8MP rear camera. Accessories such as the Smart Magnetic Keyboard and M-Pencil Pro complement the device. Colour options include Wild Green and Space Gray.
The Watch Ultimate Design receives a Royal Gold Edition update, showcasing a rare-earth purple ceramic bezel combined with 18K gold, a zirconium-based liquid metal case, and a purple-gold titanium alloy strap, emphasising premium craftsmanship and materials.
Context and What to Expect Next
HUAWEI’s Mate X7 has been a notable contender against Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7 within China, and its global launch signals the company’s ambition to compete more aggressively in the foldable market worldwide. The improvements in durability and display technology demonstrate HUAWEI’s commitment to enhancing user experience and device resilience. While pricing and availability details for these new devices remain unconfirmed, the global rollout suggests a broader strategy to expand HUAWEI’s presence beyond its domestic market.
As these products become available internationally, it will be interesting to see how they perform against established rivals in the foldable, tablet, and wearable categories. Consumers and tech enthusiasts should watch for further announcements regarding pricing and release dates in various regions.
