We had many design & information leaks early on that reported Apple was considering the removal of its notch for the iPhone 14 & a new report confirms its happening
The notch has been around since the iPhone X in 2017 and has slowly become outdated considering most other phones on the market have switched to “hole punch” or under display cameras.
iPhone 14 Pro & iPhone 14 Pro Max

According to The Elec, Apple have agreed a contract with Samsung Displays for their HIIA (Hole In Active Area) technology. Samsungs HIAA is the most advanced technology for punch hole cameras in OLED displays.
The Elec have provided plenty of reliable information over the years so we can rate this as accurate, and given that Apple have been working with Samsung Displays for some time now it seems likely.
The new punch hole camera system in the iPhone 14 pro & the iPhone 14 Pro max will deliver the highest screen to body ratio we’ve ever seen on an iPhone.
While the camera will be a punch hole, the Face-ID system will be embedded under the display so it will be a single punch hole camera.
This was advised to us way back in September by display analyst Ross young who currently holds a 100% track record when it comes to his leaks.
Regarding iPhone 14 leaks, great to see. We showed under panel Face ID in the 2022 Pro models in June…Also showed the 2023 lineup as well. pic.twitter.com/dGcm5n0bEO

There are many rumors that Touch-ID will also be coming in the form of an in display fingerprint scanner. While this seems like the next step for Apple its unfortunately not going to happen according to our sources.
iPhone 14 & iPhone 14 Max

iPhone models generally keep the same design on the front with the main differences being display size and features. This year however it’s not going to be the case and the budget friendly models will look very different.
Both the iPhone 14 & the new iPhone 14 Max will be retaining the notch and will not have Face-ID embedded under the display.
Given that the technology is new its going to add more cost, so thats no doubt the main reason behind apple excluding it.

Overall though the iPhone 14 series is looking incredible, and its going to be refreshing to see such a major design change from Apple. Let us know your thoughts in the comments though. What do you think of the punch hole camera? and does it belong in an iphone?
