iPhone 17e Launch on the Horizon

Apple appears to be preparing for the launch of its next budget-friendly handset, the iPhone 17e, with reports indicating that the inventory of the current iPhone 16e has nearly depleted. According to reliable sources, including Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple retail employees have observed that stock of the iPhone 16e has essentially ‘dried out,’ signalling that the company is gearing up for the imminent arrival of its successor.

Key Features and Upgrades

The upcoming iPhone 17e is expected to closely resemble its predecessor in terms of design, with the most notable change being the introduction of a Dynamic Island cutout. Internally, the handset will receive an upgrade to Apple’s A19 chipset, promising improved performance. However, the device will continue to use the C1 5G modem found in the iPhone 16e, meaning there will be no advancement in cellular connectivity.

Apple’s display supplier BOE has reportedly shipped around 8 million OLED panels for the iPhone 17e, indicating that production is underway and the launch is likely planned for the first quarter of 2026. This volume is modest compared to flagship models but sufficient for a low-cost device rollout.

Concurrent iPad Air Refresh

Mark Gurman also notes that the M3 iPad Air is experiencing stock shortages, hinting at the arrival of the M4 iPad Air refresh. Similar to the iPhone 17e, the new iPad Air is expected to bring internal upgrades without significant design changes, helping Apple manage manufacturing costs and streamline logistics. It is possible that Apple may announce both the iPhone 17e and the M4 iPad Air in the same week, continuing its strategy of incremental updates to popular product lines.

Looking Ahead

With inventories of the iPhone 16e and M3 iPad Air running low, Apple seems poised to introduce these updated models soon. Fans of Apple’s affordable devices should keep an eye out for official announcements, which are likely to come in the near future. The iPhone 17e’s modest upgrades suggest a focus on refining the existing formula rather than a major redesign, aligning with Apple’s approach to cost-effective hardware refreshes.
