Google’s Gemini for Home is steadily rolling out, replacing Google Assistant on smart speakers and displays dating back to 2016. After the initial early access wave launched on October 28 exclusively for US users, many were left waiting for their turn.

Good news for those still waiting: a second wave of beta testers is gaining entry this week. Multiple users and Android Authority’s own devices have recently been upgraded to Gemini for Home, signaling a gradual expansion of the program.

How to Join the Gemini for Home Beta

Gemini for Home remains in early access and isn’t widely available yet. To join, you must manually sign up through the Google Home app (version 4.1 or higher). Navigate to your profile picture, tap Home Settings, then select Early Access. Keep in mind, once you switch to Gemini, you can’t revert back to Google Assistant.

What to Expect During Setup

Once you receive a notification in the Google Home app, the setup will guide you through configuring response filtering, choosing conversation settings across devices, and selecting from 10 voice options. After setup, Gemini replaces Google Assistant on all compatible Google smart speakers and displays.

This rollout is currently limited to US homes but is expected to expand to more regions in 2026. Access is granted on a per-home basis, so if you have multiple homes linked to your Google Account, they might receive access at different times.
