Apple’s Upcoming AirTag Refresh Delayed to 2026
Apple is preparing a new version of its popular AirTag tracker, although the release has reportedly been pushed back to the first half of 2026. Initially expected to launch this year, the updated AirTag will introduce several enhancements aimed at improving user experience and tracking precision.
The new AirTag is said to feature an improved pairing process, making it easier for users to connect the device to their Apple ecosystem. One of the standout upgrades will be enhanced Precision Finding, which should offer more accurate location tracking. Additionally, the tracker will provide detailed battery level reporting, giving users better insight into when a replacement is needed.
New Features to Boost Tracking Accuracy
Among the anticipated additions is a feature called Improved Moving, which is likely designed to allow users to track the AirTag’s exact location even while it is in motion. Another enhancement focuses on refining tracking accuracy in crowded environments, where multiple signals can interfere with locating the device precisely.

It remains unclear whether some of these new capabilities will be backported to the original AirTag through software updates. However, the improved Precision Finding might require upgraded hardware, such as a new ultra-wideband (UWB) chip, which suggests that this particular feature may be exclusive to the new model.
HomePod Mini to Receive a Chip Upgrade
Alongside the AirTag refresh, Apple is also set to update the HomePod mini. This upgrade appears to be primarily a chip replacement, with the new model expected to incorporate the S10 chip. The current HomePod mini, launched in 2020, uses the S5 chip, so this change could bring modest performance improvements.
Despite the chip upgrade, the HomePod mini is unlikely to gain new Apple Intelligence features, indicating that the update will focus more on efficiency and hardware refinement rather than adding new functionality.

Looking Ahead
Apple’s plans to enhance its AirTag and HomePod mini highlight the company’s ongoing commitment to improving its ecosystem of connected devices. With the AirTag’s launch delayed to 2026, fans will have to wait a little longer for these advancements. Meanwhile, the HomePod mini’s chip refresh may arrive sooner, offering users a subtle boost in performance. It will be interesting to see how these updates fit into Apple’s broader strategy for smart home and tracking technologies.
