XiaoMi Expands Wearable Tech with Smart Audio Glasses and Budget Earbuds

Alongside the launch of the Redmi Note 15 series in Europe, Xiaomi introduced two new additions to its smart wearable lineup: the Mijia Smart Audio Glasses and the Redmi Buds 8 Lite. These devices showcase Xiaomi’s continued push into innovative audio accessories, blending style and functionality for different user needs.

Features and Specifications of Mijia Smart Audio Glasses

The Mijia Smart Audio Glasses resemble conventional eyewear but are packed with technology, including dual speakers and four microphones. This setup allows them to function similarly to wireless earbuds while providing extra smart features. Users can control playback, adjust volume, activate voice assistants, and manage calls via touch-sensitive areas on the temples. Additionally, the glasses support real-time recording for calls and meetings, accessible through a press-and-hold gesture on the temple.

These glasses also incorporate wind noise reduction and a privacy mode designed to minimise sound leakage, enhancing the listening experience in various environments. Available in three styles—Brownline (€179), Pilot-Style (€179), and Titanium (€199)—all models feature IP54 ingress protection. The Titanium variant is notably lightweight, weighing just over 27 grams without lenses, and all versions maintain a slim 5mm thickness on the temples.

Connectivity is handled via Bluetooth 5.4, supporting dual-device pairing for seamless switching between gadgets. Powering the glasses are dual 114 mAh batteries, one in each temple, which Xiaomi claims can deliver up to 13 hours of continuous audio playback or 9 hours of call time. Charging is facilitated by a proprietary magnetic charger that attaches to the temples and connects via USB-C.

Redmi Buds 8 Lite: Affordable Wireless Earbuds with Strong Features

Complementing the glasses, Xiaomi also launched the Redmi Buds 8 Lite, a budget-friendly pair of wireless earbuds priced at €23. These earbuds feature sizeable 12.4mm titanium-diaphragm drivers and Bluetooth 5.4 connectivity with dual-device pairing support. They are compatible with AAC and SBC audio codecs, ensuring decent sound quality across devices.

The Redmi Buds 8 Lite come with hybrid active noise cancellation capable of reducing noise by up to 42dB, including dedicated wind noise and call noise reduction. Battery life is solid, offering 8 hours of continuous playback on a single charge, which extends to 36 hours when using the charging case. Consumers can choose from Black, White, and Blue colour options. Xiaomi’s Earbuds app enhances the experience by providing five preset sound profiles and a custom EQ mode for personalised audio tuning.

Context and What to Expect Next

These launches highlight Xiaomi’s strategy to diversify its audio product portfolio, catering to both premium and budget segments. The Mijia Smart Audio Glasses represent a novel approach to wearable audio, blending fashion with technology, while the Redmi Buds 8 Lite offer an accessible entry point for users seeking quality wireless earbuds without a hefty price tag.

As Xiaomi continues to expand its presence in the European market, it will be interesting to see how these products are received and whether the smart glasses category gains traction among consumers. For now, both devices provide compelling options for those looking to upgrade their audio accessories with the latest features and design innovations.
