Apple has officially launched its Fitness+ subscription service in Japan, bringing the popular workout platform to the East Asian market earlier than initially anticipated. Although the company had previously announced a launch for early 2026, Japanese users can now access Fitness+ with a variety of localised features and trial options.
The subscription is priced at JPY980 per month or JPY7,800 annually in Japan. New users can enjoy a complimentary one-month trial, while customers who purchase select Apple devices—including the Apple Watch, iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, AirPods Pro 3, or Powerbeats Pro 2—are entitled to an extended three-month free trial. This approach aims to encourage adoption among Apple device owners and fitness enthusiasts alike.
In addition to standard Fitness+ offerings, Japanese subscribers will benefit from 12 workout and meditation categories featuring Japanese audio and subtitles, enhancing accessibility and engagement. The service also highlights local culture through its Artist Spotlight series, which will showcase the Japanese musical duo YOASOBI. Furthermore, the “Time to Walk” audio experience will include episodes narrated by prominent Japanese comedian and actress Naomi Watanabe, adding a familiar voice to the fitness journey.
Members of the Anytime Fitness gym chain in Japan can access Apple Fitness+ as part of their membership. Those currently on a free trial with Anytime Fitness are eligible for a two-month free Fitness+ trial, providing additional incentives for gym-goers to integrate digital workouts into their routines.
Apple’s move to expand Fitness+ into Japan follows its recent rollout to 28 other markets, including Chile, Hong Kong, India, the Netherlands, Singapore, and Taiwan. This expansion reflects Apple’s strategy to grow its fitness ecosystem globally, leveraging localised content and partnerships to appeal to diverse audiences.
With the service now live in Japan, it will be interesting to see how Apple continues to tailor Fitness+ for regional markets and whether further collaborations with local personalities and fitness providers will emerge.
