Oppo Introduces Four New A6 Variants with Impressive Battery Capacities

Oppo has once again expanded its already extensive A6 lineup by unveiling four new models, each bringing slight variations in design and specifications. The new additions include the Oppo A6 (model PLS120), A6s, A6i+, and A6v, all of which continue the tradition of offering large batteries and competitive features at affordable price points. Despite the confusing naming conventions, these devices cater to different user preferences, particularly in terms of display quality, charging speeds, and camera setups.

Key Specifications and Features of the New A6 Models

The highlight among these new releases is the Oppo A6 (PLS120), which sports a 6.57-inch 1080p+ AMOLED display—a notable upgrade over the global A6’s 6.75-inch 720p+ IPS LCD panel. This AMOLED screen also incorporates an optical under-display fingerprint sensor, replacing the side-mounted sensor found on previous models. Powering this device is the MediaTek Dimensity 6300 chipset, paired with configurations ranging from 8GB to 12GB of LPDDR4X RAM and storage options up to 512GB UFS 2.2. The A6 boasts a massive 7,000mAh battery with support for rapid charging at 80W SuperVOOC and 44W PPS, surpassing the charging capabilities of the earlier global A6 model.

In terms of photography, the Oppo A6 features a 50MP main rear camera accompanied by a 2MP secondary sensor, while the front-facing camera has been upgraded to 16MP from the previous 8MP. However, video recording remains capped at 1080p at 60fps. The device also carries advanced water resistance ratings of IP68 and IP69, ensuring durability against water and dust ingress.

Variations in the A6s, A6i+, and A6v Models

The Oppo A6s presents a different approach, retaining the 6.75-inch 720p+ LCD display similar to the global A6s but downgrading the selfie camera to 8MP and offering slower 45W SuperVOOC charging for its equally large 7,000mAh battery. It shares the same Dimensity 6300 chipset and memory options as the A6, with 8GB or 12GB RAM paired with 256GB storage, alongside a microSD slot for expansion.

The A6i+ essentially mirrors the global A6 and shares the same model number (PLT120) as the A6s, making it a rebranded variant rather than a distinct new device. Meanwhile, the Oppo A6v (model PLT130) differentiates itself with a smaller 6,500mAh battery, a 5MP selfie camera, and a lower IP64 water resistance rating. It supports 45W SuperVOOC charging and is otherwise similar to the previously released A6t model.

Pricing and Availability

These new Oppo A6 models have been launched in China with competitive pricing. The Oppo A6 starts at approximately ¥1,600 (around $232) for the 8GB/256GB variant, with higher configurations reaching up to ¥2,100 ($304). The A6i+ is slightly more affordable, beginning at ¥1,500 ($217), while the A6v is the most budget-friendly option at ¥1,200 ($174) for the base model. These prices highlight Oppo’s strategy of offering large batteries and capable hardware at accessible price points, although it remains to be seen if these models will be released internationally.

What to Expect Moving Forward

Oppo’s decision to introduce multiple A6 variants with overlapping features and confusing naming conventions underscores its aggressive approach to covering various market segments. The standout feature across these models remains the substantial 7,000mAh battery capacity, combined with fast charging technology. Tech enthusiasts should keep an eye on potential international availability and further updates regarding software and regional variants. For now, the new Oppo A6 series continues to emphasise battery endurance and affordability within the mid-range smartphone category.
